When I started the Wax Cracker project I committed to not following a super strict set of rules. For the most part I wanted to stick to the pack a day concept. However, there are special times throughout the year that deserve something special. This weekend is the Super Bowl and watching the game has been a part of my life as far back as I can remember. My Super Bowl memories go back to the days of William ‘Refrigerator’ Perry and the 1989 matchup of the Bengals v. the 49ers. I was a closet fan of the Niners back then because my brother liked them, but for some reason I remember rooting for Boomer Esiason and the Bengals in that matchup. Let’s face it, in my early childhood my Eagles didn’t give me much to root for back then.

Super Bowl Sunday was always a big event in my family.  I remember my mom buying copious amounts of food…celery, chunk cheese, carrots, pepperoni, chips, pretzels, chives and onion dip, sweet tea, pizza casserole, and every other Super Bowl dish under the Sun man could ever need.  I think I looked forward to the food as much back then as I did the game.  My Super Bowl memories bring back great times with my brother-in-law, Bruce.  Bruce grew up in a very athletic family and he played a large role in helping me to learn the rules of sports.  I’ll finally admit it, I took a lot of my sister’s time with Bruce away over the years.  He would stop to visit my sister, but he would have to go through an hour of sports in the side yard with me before I would grant him access to time with Valerie.  I can’t believe how many years have passed since my glories days of playing in the side yard.

So as I continue to celebrate the last day my Ravens can claim to be the current Super Bowl Champions, I want to keep the party going a little bit longer.  Today I will be opening Pack 32, 2012 SP Authentic Football, thanks to Steel City Collectibles.  To pump up the jam on Wax Cracker today, I will also be cracking a packs of 2007 Upper Deck Football and 2012 Score Football.  I will be stepping out of the Wax Cracker structure for the day, but I don’t think any of you will mind.  This just means I get to share more card hits with you all.  Once again, a special thanks to Steel City Collectibles for supplying me with some nice packs for this weekend and beyond.  Don’t forget to show your support for Steel City by stopping by their website and using the WAXCRACKER50FF discount code.  They are running some great specials  and contests on their site this weekend.

Later tonight I will post the Super Bowl predictions of the Wax Cracker contributors and friends of the site.  We’ll see who will be crowned the Champion of the Wax Cracker Super Bowl Prediction Party.  Sterling More will be stopping by with his prediction from the frozen tundra of Pittsburgh, JVG will be checking in from Baltimore, and Patrick Fortin will be offering his game pick from Canada.  It’s amazing how far and wide the Wax Cracker Project has spread after only one month.

Let’s get to crackin’ some wax.  Here is the hits from the 2012 SP Authentic Pack:

SportsCollectorOz was right, SP Authentic is a very nice product. I really liked the Upshaw hit from this pack since I am a Ravens fan.

I miss the glory days of Upper Deck.  I don’t know the full story of what happened to Upper Deck while I was away from collecting.  It sounds like they went through bankruptcy and are now recovering from that process.  They are located not far from here in Carlsbad.  I am going to check into them further and will try to do a piece on the Upper Deck story soon.  My hits from the 2007 Upper Deck Football Pack are below:

O-Pee-Chee, Score, Upper Deck…Sean at Steel City is really bringing back some memories from my childhood with the packs he sent.  These card lines were heavy hitters back then.  I am glad to see they are starting to make a comeback.  Below are the hits from the 2012 Score Football pack:

It’s Saturday afternoon, go crack some wax!
