Patrick here… back with my wrestling referee shirt!

The first ever Topps Tier One Checklist Battle Royale is just getting started and we already have our first elimination. As a punishment for a bad throw yesterday, a play that ruined Clayton Kershaw’s chance at a perfect game, all other 59 cards ganged up and threw the Hanley Ramirez Bat Knob card over the third rope!

This will be a costly error as the first elimination is also one of the crown jewel of the complete checklist. Eliminating a 1/1 Bat Knob card as the first casualty hurts me a lot, but it has to be done!

First ever elimination: Hanley Ramirez Bat Knob card!

Not The Actual 2014 Hanley Ramirez Bat Knob card, but one from a previous year sold on eBay

As the remaining 59 cards watch the eliminated Ramirez card walk away from the ring, we are reminded of what almost happened yesterday. Kershaw came this close to perfection and registered a no hitter! By the way, how is a pitcher less perfect when the runner is on base because of a throwing error. Then again, the other way to see this is that a perfect game often is 95% pitcher and 5% fielders! Many great pitchers like Steve Carlton never achieved perfection. Carlton did not even register a no hitter in his illustrious career! As if taking their queue from this fact, three pitcher cards walk to the Carlton Prodigious Patches card and grab the legend from all angles, trying to eliminate the Hall of Famer. The Livan Hernandez Acclaimed Autograph card, the Tim Lincecum Bat Knob and the Randy Johnson/Pedro Martinez Montreal Expos themed card team up and try to throw the Carlton card over the third rope. As if reacting to protect a fellow Phillies pitcher, the Cliff Lee All Star Relic card runs to the rescue… unfortunately arriving too late as the Steve Carlton Prodigious Patch card is thrown over the rope and to the ground.

Second elimination: Steve Carlton Prodigious Patch Card.

Coming in strong from his unsuccessful save rescue, Cliff Lee All Star Relic clothesline the Livan Hernandez Acclaimed Autograph out of the ring!

Third elimination: Livan Hernandez Acclaimed Autograph.

Good thing for me as Hernandez is a player from the dark days of my beloved Expos. He represented What Was instead of What Could Have Been! Cliff Lee himself is part of the Expos alternate future history as he was traded away from their farm system when they acquired Bartolo Colon in 2002.

(Don’t you all act like you didn’t know there was going to be a strong Expos story to this Battle Royale thingy!!!)

Tonight’s episode ends with the Cliff Lee All Star Relic Card looking for vengeance against the Randy Johnson/ Pedro Martinez dual autographs! That is what we call a CliffLeeHanger folks!

Tonight’s Elimination Recap:

1- Hanley Ramirez Bat Knob Card eliminated by the other 59 cards as a Kangaroo Court punishment for screwing with the Kershaw Almost Perfect Game!

3- Livan Hernandez Acclaimed Autograph Card eliminated by the Cliff Lee All Star Relic as a retribution for the Carlton job!
